Eyelash extensions in Vinohrady: how to spot a good salon

Type “eyelash extensions Vinohrady” into a search engine and you will get dozens of results, all promising the same thing: a natural look, quality materials, long retention. The price list will not help you decide, because most salons sit in the same range. What decides is everything the price list does not show.

This text is written from a salon's point of view, so take with a pinch of salt that we have an interest in it. The criteria below apply generally, though — and if they lead you to choose a different salon, you will still have chosen well.

Seven things that tell you a salon is good

1. A consultation before the work, not after it. The lash artist should look at your natural lashes before starting and ask: what have you worn before, what did you dislike, how oily is your skin, what are you allergic to. If the first question is “how much volume do you want?”, something is missing.

1. Length and thickness are chosen for your lashes. A natural lash can only carry so much weight. Bond a long, thick fibre to a fine lash and it lasts a couple of weeks while your own lashes weaken. A good lash artist will occasionally tell you “not that one” — and explain why.

1. The material has a name. Ask which lashes and adhesive the salon uses. The answer should be a specific brand, not “professional material”. We work with BL Lashes and will tell you before you ask.

1. Hygiene is visible. Single-use under-eye pads, disinfected tweezers, a clean couch, clean hands. These are not details — the work happens a millimetre from your eye.

1. Unfiltered photos. A salon's portfolio should show real eyes in daylight, ideally also a few weeks after the appointment. An over-smoothed, filtered photo tells you nothing about the work.

1. The time matches the work. A new classic set takes around two hours. A salon that promises it in forty minutes is bonding clusters to several lashes at once — the fastest route to thinned-out natural lashes.

1. Aftercare is part of the service. You leave with instructions, a spoolie and a clear idea of when to come for an infill. If nobody mentions the oil in your make-up remover, it is a salon that does not expect you to come back.

Red flags

• A new set priced well below the usual Prague level — there is nowhere to save except on material and time.
• “3D lashes” as the only offer, with no distinction between methods.
• No mention of infills. A salon that only counts on new sets does not count on your lashes lasting.
• Reviews that only talk about price and speed, never about retention weeks later.
• Reluctance to show a certificate or say where the lash artist trained.

What a first visit looks like with us

We start with a conversation and a look at your lashes — we take our time over this, because it decides the method. For most clients we recommend classic 1:1 for a first visit: it is the most natural and shows how your lashes respond to extensions. If your lashes are sparse, we go for a light volume; if you have oilier skin or classic adhesive has let you down before, we offer the UV method.

The application itself takes around two hours; you lie with your eyes closed and most clients fall asleep. You leave with aftercare instructions and a date for your infill. We describe the whole visit step by step in a separate article.

Who the salon is handy for

Vinohrady is a neighbourhood people walk around. Most of our clients live or work nearby — in Vinohrady, Vršovice, Žižkov, Nusle and around I. P. Pavlova — and pop in for an infill at lunchtime or on the way home from the office. An infill takes an hour, so it fits into a lunch break; plan a new set for an afternoon when you are not in a hurry.

From Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad it is an eight-minute walk, from I. P. Pavlova ten. If you are coming from the other side of Prague, get off at Náměstí Míru and walk along Korunní to Budečská — it takes less time than looking for a parking space.
