Maderotherapy, also known as wood therapy, is a manual massage carried out with a set of wooden tools of different shapes. Nothing mechanical, nothing invasive — it works through pressure, rhythm and the shape of the tool, which is matched to the part of the body being treated.

It is most often done on the thighs, the bottom, the stomach and the arms. The massage is firm but comfortable; most clients describe it as relaxing.

What to expect, and what not to

Maderotherapy encourages circulation and microcirculation in the area, releases tension in the muscles and the tissue beneath the skin, and clients describe lighter legs and skin that feels smoother to the touch.

It is not a weight-loss method and it does not replace exercise or a change of diet. Anyone selling it as a cure for excess weight, or as medical treatment, is not being straight with you. The difference in how the skin looks shows best over a course of treatments, alongside exercise and drinking enough water.

How many treatments

The usual recommendation is a course of eight to twelve treatments, once or twice a week, followed by maintenance appointments. Do not expect a transformation from a single visit. We will suggest a plan based on what you want to work on.

When not to have maderotherapy

During pregnancy; with acute inflammation, fever or infection; with thrombosis or a blood clotting disorder; during cancer treatment without your consultant's approval; over varicose veins or broken skin in the area; and soon after surgery. If you are unsure, write to us beforehand — we would rather postpone.
