About the course

Chemical peels are a staple of beauty treatments, but they are also a treatment where insufficient knowledge can easily lead to skin damage. This course therefore focuses on how to select the right acid and concentration based on skin type, and how to recognise when not to perform the treatment at all.

What students will learn

  • How to distinguish between types of acids (AHAs, BHAs, and their combinations) and their effects.
  • How to assess skin type and condition to select the appropriate acid and concentration.
  • Understanding contraindications, including isotretinoin treatment and recent sun exposure.
  • How to prepare the skin before the treatment.
  • How to apply the peel and recognise when to neutralise it.
  • How to manage neutralisation and soothing.
  • How to advise the client on healing, sun protection, and home care.
  • Knowing when to refer a client to a dermatologist.

Frequently asked questions

Do students learn to choose an acid for the skin type?

Yes, that is the heart of the course. They learn to tell the acids apart and what each does, and to choose a concentration for the type and condition of the skin — rather than following one universal protocol.

Does the course cover contraindications?

Yes, including the riskiest ones — isotretinoin treatment and recent sun exposure. It also covers when to send a client to a dermatologist instead.

How many hours does the course take?

Four hours, theory and practice. The minimum group size is eight.
